Tom Hanks is a phenomenal actor, who happens to be one of my favourites. His movies, especially "Cast Away", "Forest Gump", "The Terminal" are close to my heart. These movies have a simple plot and are light-hearted but they touch the heart so deeply.
"Cast Away" was released in the year 2000. The protagonist, Chuck Noland, a FedEx executive, survives a flight crash and gets stranded on an island for four years. He is the only one to be washed off ashore along with some FedEx parcels. The whole story revolves around the theme of hope. Chuck finds ways to hold on to hope despite the many reasons to not. The world believes he's dead, people forget him and move on. He becomes attached to a volleyball that he personifies and names it "Wilson". Wilson becomes his only companion in this lonely island. He leaves one particular FedEx package unopened in the hope that he would deliver it someday. This particular parcel acts as a symbol of hope. He survives holding on to some of the objects that represented hope for him. When he returns to civilization, everything is changed. Towards the end of the film he says "I knew, somehow that I had to stay alive. Somehow. I had to keep breathing. Even though there was no reason to hope"
The film instills into you a sense of hope, even if you think you are or your situation is hopeless. It teaches you to just 'keep breathing' and surviving through the challenges. It gives you the determination that you can survive, come what may! Tom Hanks has done an amazing job at acting, wow.. I admire the man so much! He's lived the character!
This film is a must watch. I hope I've given a good movie suggestion for the weekend for those of you all, who are yet to watch it!
